SandStorm and RSS fix
- by meridimus on

I've already mentioned "The Heist" in my last post, things have changed slightly because we wanted to quickly release a new title that we could sell a non-exclusive license for. This is SandStorm.
SandStorm will be the next new game to release on JohnnyTwoShoes, it's a few days away from completion but we're looking to get a non-exclusive license for this game so that means it's launch could be a little while after that (since it has to go through various stages of review on the hosts site).
SandStorm is a top down racing game (not like The Heist or HighSpeedChase series) where you compete against other racers, upgrade your buggy and progress through the tournament.
We're pretty excited about these games we have in development, it's going to be amazing when they're all online with new medals. I'm really looking forward to finishing world 3 of Banana Dash as well, Josh has basically done the new engine for it, down to me and Sarah to put the new graphics in.
I'm going to try and post new updates everyday from now on.

The rss feed icon is still all lumpy ...And you have a bug where the right border image for comments isn't aligned correctly.Maybe you should use the abbreviation W2 for World 2 in the name of BD so it doesn't go to a second line.Oh and another thing, the privacy part of the TOS is missing the part about knowingly collecting private information from people under the age of 13 in accordance with the Child Online Protection Act of 1998.

Darknessfalls: are you running a low screen resolution, or any accessibility features such as enlarged text? I don't seem to be experiencing any of the issues you describe. I run 1680x1050 in firefox 3.0.1.And sandstorm sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Just make sure the actual driving portion of the game is *fun* like HSC. So many games of this type are unplayable because the driving is just so unfun.

Darknessfalls: Could I ask you what browser you're running, what version and what operating system? I've tested Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer 6 & 7. IE6 does still have some bugs, I have to get round to fixing them (and I will!).For the RSS fix, I meant I fixed the validity of the feed (so now it's a proper valid feed). I'll check out everything you've mentioned.I think the way we take registrations so quickly means we're not checking for age, although in the profile edit page a user must be 13 or older. I'll look into the Child protection act stuff and I'm slowly restricting accounts that haven't verified their email address (currently they can't post news comments, but soon I'll extend that to game comments and when the forums are online they'll be restricted to read only too).Really appreciate feedback like this, it helps us alot! So, thanks (I think I'll give you 50 points for bug finding as well).I run 1680x1050 as well with firefox 3 — just for comparison.MrDomino: SandStorm is really fun, your buggy kicks out loads of dust and the computer controlled cars are very challanging (dynamically based on how you drive, so the game is always intense) — also you can upgrade your vehicle to make competition in later races easier and lots faster!

Dynamically controlled AI? I'm used to it being called 'rubber-banding', haha. Hopefully that isn't going to be up too high: nothing, I mean nothing, is more frustrating than driving a perfect race for 5 laps, only to be mysteriously passed from a computer opponent traveling twice your speed while you're going all out to the finish line...That usually happens in arcade games mostly, though. Can't wait!

1280*800 in FireFox 3.0.1 and I found the location of the rss icon and it looks fine except on the page it looks lumpyAnd I think I figured out what's wrong with the comments, your using a top and bottom image for the comment boxes and I think the background color your using to fill in the rest is a few pixels wider than they should be.Took some picks to show what I mean:http://i38.tinypic.com/2zexlk1.pnghttp://i34.tinypic.com/wajamt.png

MrDomino — It's not like rubber banding, lol. It's more creative than that...DarknessFalls — Thanks, I'll look into it. I've added those 50 points to your account. Thanks for the screenshots. I think I've fixed the 1px colour leak, let me know if it's sorted your end. Also, how's the RSS feed icon now?Maybe you have the screen zoomed in slightly as well, try pressing CTRL + 0?

The color leak is fixed, the rss icon is different but not all lumpy.
